GMDSS - The Global Maritime Distress Safety System (GMDSS) is a set of safety procedures, equipment and communication protocols designed to increase safety and facilitate navigation and rescue of vessels in danger.

This system is regulated by the International Convention for the Protection of Human Life at Sea (SOLAS), aproved under the auspices of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a UN body.
